RESEARCH COMPLETED BY MARGARET BONE 1993 Information re BINGE family. I began with Esther Binge. From the lack of marriages at Waterbeach 1599-1837 index, I concluded that it was not an early family there:- 28 May 1804 Mary Bynge m Thomas Camps 23 October 1821 Francis Bynge m Mary Liveal I checked the area for BYNGES in variants in marriage and burial indices and I picked up the right branch in the nearby parish of DRY DRAYTON:- 10 June 1772 Edward Binge x m Mary Allen x both of this parish by banns 16 April 1773 bapt of Edward of Edward and Mary Byndge (10 Dec 1793 Edward Bynge bach m FrancesStonebridge sp both of this parish) 14 March 1775 bapt of William of same ( 3 Nov 1795 William Byndge x bach m Mary Wolf x sp both of this parish) 9 February 1777 bapt of John of same(spelt BYRNDGE) 8 November 1778 bapt of Allen of same(spelt BYNDGE) (26 Jan 1803 Allen Bynge m Sarah Watts both of this parish by banns.Mary Byndge a witness.8 December 1813 Allen Bynge aged 35 buried) 25 December 1780 bapt of Elizabeth of same and buried 28 October 1781 16 February 1783 bapt of Elizabeth of same( 8 September 1800 Elizabeth Byndge sp m William Chapman bach both of this parish by banns) 10 April 1785 bapt of Mary of same 6 May 1787 bapt of John of same and buried 1 January 1788 28 December 1788 bapt of Esther of Edward and Mary Bynge. This fits well with her age at death. 27 November 1804 burial of Edward Bynge from Waterbeach farmer. Edward left a will: c.47 f.197 8th November 1804 will of Edward Binge of Waterbeach yeoman.Copyhold messuage held of manor of waterbeach with Denny to wife of Mary Binge, who is the sole legatee and executrix.Probate:16 February 1805.Effects sworn under £100. Mary Binge aged 75 was buried in Waterbeach in 1826, and her will was more detailed:- c.52 f.269 6 February 1820 Will of Mary Binge of Waterbeach widow. To son Francis Binge my messuage in Waterbeach in my occupation, held of the manor of Waterbeach with Denny, charged with £30 which I give to my son Edward Bing. To my three grandchildren Mary Binge,Elizabeth Binge and John Binge, children of my late son Allen Binge,£10 apiece to be paid at 21. To son William Binge £30. To son John Binge £40. To daughter Elizabeth wife of William Chapman £30. Codicil:31 May 1823 The £30 to be paid to Robert gee, not to Thomas Hobson. Probate:1 April 1826.Effects sworn under £300. As I found an Edward Binge earlier at Dry Drayton, I though he must be father of this Edward, but his children there did not include an Edward. However, his will showed that he did have a son named Edward:- c42 f237 Will of Edward Binge of dry Drayton blacksmith.30th April 1771 To wife Mary Binge a bed etc. Executor to pay my wife(if she does not live with him) 18d weekly. My executor to bring up my natural grandchild William Bynge to 21 years and give him £5 at 21. To my daughter Sarah Allen wife of John Allen of Cambridge lab.40s. To dau. Esther Linton wife of Smith Linton of Dry Drayton shepherd 40s. To grandchildren Alice Bynge,Sarah Bynge and Elizabeth Bynge 5s apiece. Residuary legatee and executor my son Edward Bynge of Dry Drayton farmer. Probate 22 June 1771. Dry Drayton Registers:- 25 Dec 1732 bapt of Elizabeth Binge dau of Edward 24 Sept 1734 bapt of William Bynge 29 Aug 1736 bapt of Alice dau of Edward Bynge (and buried 17th May 1757) 19 Sept 1738 bapt of Sarah do 31 July 1743 bapt of Frances do 6 Jan 1745/6 bapt of Hester do Edward Bynge was buried 28 May 1771 Mary Byndge was buried 10 Dec 1781 I found marriages for the children that fit with the will: 8 July 1755 William Binge blacksmith m Elizabeth Carter x sp both of this parish with consent of parents The legacies to the Bynge grandchildren are explained by the fact that William died before his father, leaving Edward as the only surviving son. Children of William and Elizabeth:- 25 April 1756 William 26 Feb 1758 Alice 5 July 1761 Elizabeth 26 Dec 1762 Edward and buried 26 Dec 1762 4 Nov 1764 Sarah Two William Binges were buried in 1764, on 20 Sept and 16 Oct,presumably father and son, leaving the three daughters mentioned in their grandfather’s will. Elizabeth Bynge was buried 28 Oct 1781 This must be one of the granddaughters, as Elizabeth Binge x widow m John Allen x both of this parish by banns. 21 Aug 1783 Sarah Byndge sp was also buried. I checked for an illegitimate child, as Edward had a natural grandson. First I found a son John 8 March 1752 but he was buried 29 Nov 1754(child of the 1732 Elizabeth). I found 30 June 1765 bapt of William base born son of Esther Bynge.(Esther = Hester 1745/6) 6 July 1766 Esther Bynge x m Smith Lynton, both of this parish. 1 Nov 1763 Frances Bynge x sp m Joseph Galer of Childerley by banns. I was unable to find a marriage for Sarah to John Allen - I found Samuel Allen m Sarah Binge at Cambridge Holy Trinity in 1766, which could be reasonable. As I used the microfilm reader of wills copied into the court volumes, perhaps John was a mistake for Samuel? The Mary in Edward’s will must have been his second wife. Edward Binge m Alice Perkis at Swavesey in 1731. Alice Binge was buried at dry Drayton 25 Aug 1746. 1 Aug 1749 Edward Binge of dry Drayton wdr m Mary Bentham of this parish widow at Haslingfield. I have not found a son Edward for this Edward Binge, but as the will proves that he fits into this family, I have not searched further. The gap in baptisms 1739-42 means Edward would slot in nicely about 1740....... I found a possible Edward married 1731 at Cottenham:- 18 Feb 1704 William Bing m Frances Pisfoot 1 July 1705 bapt of Edward of William and Frances Bing. You will note that Edward the son had a daughter Frances and his first son was William. The name is used as a male name by Edward and Mary - at least, I surmise that the Francis who married at Waterbeach was their son, and he is mentioned in the will of his mother Mary. Francis Binge of Waterbeach left a will: From Margaret Bone in March 1998 How nice to hear from you again! Below is a summary of the will of Francis Binge. There is an index to Bapts and burials in all Cambs 1801-1837. I checked for children of Francis & Mary and entered the years of the baptism in brackets after names of the children in the will. As they are listed in date order in the will, it would seem the 1824 William died and a second William was baptised after the index ended in 1837 as were, presumably, Charles and Henry. All the baptisms for which years are given were in Waterbeach. The registers for Waterbeach are not deposited. There is only a poor silver nitrate film, which I can check if you wish........ Ely Consistory Court Will Volume 57 f.294 12 March 1845 Will of Francis Binge of Waterbeach farmer. To wife Mary Binge my copyhold messuage in which I dwell with the buildings and 10 acres 2 roods of copyhold land adjoining, for her lifetime. After her death, messuage and land to my son Edward Binge + my personal estate. Before he takes property, he is to execute deed of assurances to maintain all my children who are under 21 years or unmarried. If he fails to do so, my estate to my second son and so on. If all fail to do so, to my executors in trust for sale and proceeds to be divided equally among my children.
